Scaravelli Inspired Yoga Workshops

Louise Simmons and Mooie Scott 2nd – 5th October 2010
Diane Long and Sophy Hoare 5th – 7th April 2011
Diane Long 9th – 10th April 2011spacerThe Universal Hall, FindhornspacerVanda Scaravelli, who died in Italy in l999 at the age of 9l, may be best known to many yoga students for her influential book 'Awakening the Spine', with its striking photos of her in her 80's performing challenging poses with ease. Vanda's knowledge developed from initial study with Iyengar and Desikachar. Her own distinctive approach to yoga evolved throughout the rest of her life.
The emphasis of this approach to yoga is not on achieving postures but using them to undo tension and find integration. The practice is an ongoing exploration of the relationship between the parts of the body and between our movements and the breath, the ground and the space around us. Gradually a new network of muscles is brought into use. Then our movements come from the spine and bring us back to the spine and the whole body pulls together. We train our attention so that we can feel more, impose less, and allow the intelligence of the body to reveal itself.spacerLouise Simmons & Mooie Scott
2nd – 5th October 2010spacerLouise has a studio on Orcas Island, Washington, USA and strong links with the Findhorn Community. From a performance arts background, she explored a variety of approaches to yoga and bodywork. She met her teacher and inspiration, Diane Long, in the mid 90's & through her the teachings of Vanda Scaravalli. She has been exploring and sharing this transformational way with students and other teachers internationally, for over 10yrs.
Mooie lives and teaches yoga in the Scottish Borders, Edinburgh and Glasgow. She was introduced the Scaravelli approach to yoga over 25 years ago by Sophy Hoare, beginning a training course with Sophy, Mary Stewart and John Stirk in 1990. Her interest is to understand how to free the body without strain focussing on the breath in a rhythmical way, one that is both transforming and beautiful.

9th – 10th April 2011spacer"Diane Long and Sophy Hoare both worked closely with Vanda Scaravelli. Diane was her pupil for 23 years, and Sophy studied with Vanda regularly for 8 years. Sophy and Diane met through Vanda and continue to work and teach together to deepen their practice. Since Vanda's death in 1999 her legacy has continued through Diane and Sophy. What she gave carries on developing because it was not a set of instructions, but a feeling of curiosity for what the practice can show us" – Ed FelllowsspacerAll workshops will run between 9am and approximately 12 noon each day, with an optional afternoon discussion. Each morning, participants will attend two 1.5 hour classes – one taught by each of the two named teachers. The group will be divided into two halves to allow greater contact time with the teachers. On the 9th & 10th of April Diane will teach one three hour class to all participants.spacerCost:
