Feldenkrais Workshop with Simone Kenyon
Walking With Awareness & Ease
Saturday 25 June 2016, 9.30am-2.30pm
Findhorn Village Centre
Through the Feldenkrais Method, the day will explore learning to move and walk with ease and enjoyment. It will include both indoor sessions and spending time outside in the beautiful landscape and coastline of Findhorn. The day will focus on the action of walking, bringing practical investigation into the function and awareness of how you walk in life and in Scottish landscapes.
Simone will use the stunning Findhorn Bay landscape for exercises which will focus on your balance, coordination, posture, rhythm and timing in walking. Feldenkrais has been used extensively for people who wish to improve their walking or running or helping with reducing back pain and other joint issues.
About the Feldenkrais Method
The Feldenkrais Method® is an educational method focusing on learning and movement, which can bring about improved movement and enhanced functioning. It is named after its originator, Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984), an engineer and physicist as well as a Judo teacher.By heightening our awareness of our movement, breathing and posture, the Feldenkrais Method® brings us closer to realising our full human potential. Bringing this into our lives, we learn to move more freely, with greater ease, flexibility and grace.
Group classes – what to expect
Lessons take place lying on the floor, sometimes sitting or walking. The teacher talks you through a sequence of movements that works like a physical riddle. Each new movement is repeated and explored, enabling you to become familiar with it, and to begin to play with unaccustomed movement relationships. By engaging your curiosity, gently and at your own rate, you learn to explore the world of your internal sensation. You learn to use this awareness to release chronic patterns of tension and create new movement possibilities.
What to bring and wear
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing for the Feldenkrais sessions and a yoga mat or blanket for resting on the floor during these sessions. For walking outdoors please bring good walking shoes/boots and be prepared for all weathers.
Simone is a UK based Feldenkrais Practitioner and dancer. She creates works that encompasses dance and somatic practices, environment, ecology, walking arts, participatory events and workshops for both urban and rural contexts.
